About the Project

A joint initiative between Nigeria’s Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Forward7 to promote the adoption of LPG as a cleaner, safer alternative to traditional fuels such as firewood and charcoal. The program was implemented across Edo and Imo States in southern Nigeria, covering seven local government areas.

Our approach places community awareness at the center, helping families move away from the negative impacts of traditional cooking toward more sustainable, opportunity-driven livelihoods.

Leveraging TV, radio, and newspapers to reach millions.

Training 140 local volunteers (20 per area) to act as clean cooking ambassadors in their communities.

Media reach

of over 200 million through newspapers and 1.2 million via TV.

Direct engagement

with 16,000 individuals and 2,285 households through door-to-door outreach.

Behavior change

LPG usage in Edo State increased from 35% to 48%, and in areas such as Oredo, from 47% to 76%.

Gender impact

Women made up 65% of the target audience, with a 37% adoption rate, reflecting their key role in household cooking decisions.
